Eosinophilic Esophagitis: “EoE”
A chronic allergic inflammatory disease of the esophagus which is diagnosed by having an elevated number of eosinophils on esophageal biopsies. It is a growing identifiable cause of dysphagia, heartburn and food impactions. Treatments include PPI, topical glucocorticoids and food elimination to identify triggers of disease. Endoscopic signs of EoE include linear furrows, decreased vascular markings, edema, exudate and concentric rings. Concentric rings has also been described as “trachealization”, “Corrugated esophagus” and “Feline Esophagus”.
