Esophagitis Dissecans
Esophagitis Dissecans is a condition characterized by sloughing of the squamous mucosa of the esophagus. It appears as white mucosa with vertical fissures and cracks. It has been associated with medications such as bisphosphonates and NSAIDS. Other associations include celiac disease, autoimmune bullous disease and hot beverages. The condition is recognized as benign and pathology rarely reveals a fungal or bacterial infection.
